HomeAI Optimization (AIO)

Core Concept

What is AI Optimization (AIO)?

AI Optimization helps structure website content, service information and trust signals so AI-assisted systems can better understand, summarise and classify a business.

The practical definition

Make the firm easy to understand correctly.

When an AI system reads a solicitor website, it works out what kind of business it is, which services it provides and whether the information looks reliable. AIO makes those answers easy to get right.

AIO in plain terms

When an AI system reads your website, it tries to work out what kind of business you are, which services you provide, where you operate, and whether the information looks reliable. AIO is the discipline of making those answers easy to get right: clear entity information, well-structured service descriptions, extractable definitions, consistent naming, and connected internal links between related concepts.

AIO is not about trying to manipulate AI answers. It is about removing ambiguity, so that when your firm is summarised, the summary is accurate.

AIO and SEO

SEO helps search engines crawl, index and rank pages. AIO focuses on making the business, services, evidence and answers clearer for AI-assisted interpretation. They overlap, because clean structure helps both, but AIO asks a different question: not "will this page rank?" but "will a system that reads this page understand the firm correctly?"

AIO and GEO

Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) focuses on being useful and sourceable for generated answers. AIO is the wider optimisation layer that helps AI systems understand the entity, services, structure and intent behind a website. In practice: AIO makes your firm understandable; GEO makes your content quotable.

What AIO looks like on a law-firm website

  • A clear, consistent statement of who the firm is and what it does.
  • Dedicated practice-area pages instead of one generic "services" list.
  • Direct answers to the questions clients actually ask, in crawlable text.
  • Consistent firm name, address and contact details everywhere they appear.
  • Structured data (schema) describing the organisation and its FAQ content.
  • Visible trust signals: team, credentials, review presence, external consistency.

Where AIO fits in a Cited review

AIO signals are assessed primarily in the AI Answer Readiness andPractice-Area Depth categories of the Cited Visibility Score™, alongside modern SEO foundations and local, trust and conversion signals. As with everything Cited.ie reviews, AIO work carries no guarantee of AI citations, rankings, enquiries or revenue, and it is not legal advice.
